“The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.”
Jeremiah 31:3 NKJV
The Israelites were permitted back into the promised land by God, after 70 years. This verse is from God saying that His love for the people is and will always be there for His people. Oftentimes in life we run into people or even situations that are temporary. Here one minute and then gone the next. Sometimes we can even sin so much and for so long we may wonder if God even likes us, let alone love us. The Israelites were in the same place. They had just been punished for 70 years under the oppression of the Babylonians. After all they had done, though they repented, there was probably a part of them that wondered if God still cared about them as He had before they turned away in sin. In the verse He assures them of His steadfast love, a love that is everlasting. We can also hold onto this promise. No matter who we are or what we have done, God’s love will always be there for us.
