God does not call us to be complacent in this life. We, however, quite enjoy being complacent and doing the same things over and over. Kind of like a little hamster wheel , sometimes we find ourselves in patterns of sin in our lives. All God asks us to do is jump off the wheel.
But we fuss and fight. We feel that perhaps this time we will be fulfilled and we aren’t. Or perhaps that it won’t end in the same bad place, and it will. The Israelites did the same in the Old Testament time and time again. God would faithfully restore them and then after a time of blessing they would leave God for idols again. Our idols may not be made out of stone or wood but we do the same thing. In our times of trial we walk very close to God and we begin to reap the blessings of that relationship. Then we begin to take it for granted. Our idols of sports, work, or even material possessions begin to entice us. Or rather the enemy uses them to lure us away. We compromise with God’s place in our lives in small ways at first. However, once you open the door to temptation, it will soon all come sliding in.
Then you realize where you are. You find that you’ve wandered far from the path that God had you on. You were on the hamster wheel. Going around and around which was rendering you ineffective. This adds a new layer to things. Because not only does your sin effect you. It effects the people and world around you. The worst part is you don’t get to pick who is effected or how much.
God is patient with you but you have to humbly yield to Him. It’s not going to get any easier than today. The thing about going around on the hamster wheel is you’ll get dizzier and dizzier until you can’t see the way off anymore. Before sin traps you, listen to God before it is too late. Hop off of the wheel. As a Christian you won’t go to hell but you will be punished by God. God is a loving parent and the Bible says that He will chastise His children because He loves them. He desires to bless you for your obedience and your obedience will help others to find Him.
““Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God:”
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 NKJV
“And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.” If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?”
Hebrews 12:5-7 NKJV
